Bio filter = Biological filter

Or, the bacterias that change ammonia to nitrate. Besides other places in the pond you put a media with lots of surface area in your filter that the bacteria will grow on. As the water passes through the bacteria removes ammonia.

Mechanical Filter would be a skimmer basket, sieve, and media that remove particulate matter. Even the bottom of a drum or tank filter where the poop settles.

Chemical filtration is activated carbon, zeolite, etc. used to remove toxins from the water.

Lily we are building a large bog garden to be our bio filter, filled with pea gravel and plants. the water will be pumped into a pipe below the gravel and filter up to waterfall back into the pond.
Like squidhead says, there are multiple different filter types out there. Everybody has their own preference.

For sure. Plants and algae are the best bio-filters for sure. If you think about it, most pond equiptment is just trying to do what plants/algae do. Bio filter, air pump and diffuser and even food source for the fish.

I have never been able to understand the mind of a spammer. Do they really think that injecting spam ads into the middle of a forum thread will actually bring new customers to their business?
