You can grow it floating or wedge it between rocks at edge of pond but it can become invasive if you don't have koi to eat it. It is easy to pull out though, so not too much of a concern.
It didn't survive my winter but for others it comes back.
going to speed this up so I can get some planting done this weekend.

We are 6b, the pond I have parrots feather in freezes solid (fishless pond, shallow) the stuff comes back every year. Looks like dead mush in the spring.It didn't survive my winter but for others it comes back.

Submersible or floating is fine. Goldfish love it to lay eggs and Koi eat it.
