they may have rated them compared to what a bulb would put out .I have seen led's that say they are equivalent to a 60 or 70 watt bulb .I look at the number of led's and the brightness level older led's gave off a blue or yellow light that is why they are not favored and the newer led's are white light .I have a flashlight with 50 led's and it is a white light and when I turn it on I can see all the way across the road and that is over 200ft away .Led's are confusing but worth the money they save plus they last a lot longer .I have a 42 inch led tv and and if it is run for a whole year it only uses a little over 14 dollars by my energy cost ..I have all led's in my house and outside and my energy cost went down a lot and all my outside lights are on all night and light up all around the house .Led's have come down a lot in price and have improved in the light they give off ,they used to have a yellow or blue tint even sometimes going as far as pink .I find it easier if they say they are like a a watt bulb as say it gives off the same light .They do use lumens to say in relation to a watt bulb

My outside led's have 8 to 10 leds and all my christmas lights are led's and are a lot brighter than regular bulbs and do not get hot .That's why they have a problem with traffic lights made with led's in the winter icing over so much that you can't see the light green yellow or red you just guess and go.Forgot led's come in different sizes also .I have one led that is new as of a week ago and it was rated as bright as a 100 watt bulb and to me looked brighter than a 200 watt bulb ,lights up my whole back yard .

I am going to slowly replace all my MR16 bulbs with the LED bulbs that I am trying out, I found them for pretty cheap about $3 a pop. The only downside is they fit a bit snug against the lens cap but other than that they work great. LED's will also allow me to put more lights on the circuit since they only use about 3w vs 20w that I have in there now. So that means more lights next spring and more cable running, Yeah! I really hate doing lights.

I sometimes wonder why more people don;t do leds as the price has come down so much and electric rates are not going down any time soon .If I could get a new heat pump I think my electric bill would come down more and hoping it dies.My home owners policy pays for breakdowns of my major appliances and there replacement .I still see a lot of my neighbors still use regular light bulbs .

Our electric bill is not too bad, maybe 150 or so even with the addition of the pond. We have replaced a bunch of bulbs with the florescent bulbs, and turn off lights if not in a room. My air pump for the winter will pull the cost of a 100 watt bulb, I picked up a bigger pump to keep the ponds ice open.

If you are going to need a new heat pump look into geothermal if you plan on staying there a while, there are probably some tax credits you can get too.

I looked into geo thermal when I had the house put here but digging into a hillside and unstabilizing it was not worth the extra work or money .When I had to dig out for the basement it was a nightmare because the soil is clay and sand .It starts out clay and then goes to sand and when they dug out for the basement it kept caving in so there is actually a basement in a basement under my house .The house has 18 ft. footings just for the walls as we had to find stable ground to build on .The house is 2440 sq. ft. and I had an on demand hot water heater put in a month ago thanks to the other one leaking and the insurance companies money .They only paid for a regular water heater and I paid the rest which was 600 dollars and then VA has a rebate and then the government has a rebate too .I also had vampire switches put in the bedrooms and great room ,this way when I hit the switch there is no wasted electric there .I usually can keep from turning on the heat in the house until the end of November .The house is well insulated

Here is what I have been working on, it is going to be my wife's aquarium stand for her 75gallon tank. It is almost finished just need to finish staining the oak top. Don't mind the messy workshop, need to get in there and clean up when I am done with this.
