Thank you everyone for responding.

So it does seem like its algae and so Im just going to remove it off my lily, but Im guessing I have to remove the hornwort thats effected as its not so easy to take it off that.

So my next question - is there a way to make sure it doesnt come back?

Should I be testing the water too? If so whats a good kit to get please?

All help appreciated

Thanks in advance

deany70, i have a professional taking care of my arizona pond, he uses granular peroxide to help control algae, only needs when we are starting the warm up there.

I have used peroxide (liquid) in my pond to help with algae. Without fish you could try some, the algae does not like it. It does not bother goldfish, but I heard that koi don't like it. It did not kill any of the plants I had in the pond.
The rate is 1 liter to 1000 gallons. You could put in 1/2 that and see if it takes care of the blob for you, the algae begins to die almost immediately. Put in an air stone for some good air flow, unless you already have a fountain or something aerating it. Don't want to harm your other little critters. I always added it to my stream and have a large water fall so I had a lot of aeration.

With the string algae attack, I have to clean my main pump intake weekly. It takes only a few minutes, but it is important to catch it before the bio filter is damaged.

When the pump intake gets loaded, the flow decreases and eventually stops. So this time of the year, I have to check it several times a day. When the Koi spawn, they will lay their eggs in the string algae.

ok I use a batch of fishing wire all tied together for them to spawn on .I always find my fish up there eating at it so I'm guessing they are eating the spawn not sure but move it to a spot up by the waterfall that is blocked off not sure I should be doing it that way but all I could think of at the time .I could never find really good info on that even on the internet all they ever mentioned is about spawning mops

You have to get the eggs out right after the spawn. If you wait more than a few hours, they will eat them.
I find the eggs everywhere there is a surface to stick to. In the string algae, on the plants that grow in the edges that have made it to the waters edge.
Harvesting the eggs, is a painstaking task that requires patience.
