a clever relay board with an Ethernet port on 8 relays too for $160. I have used it to open my gates when via a desktop app and browser.
I don't know much about hardware, but will look forward to learning hopefully.

An application for pond design and management would be very cool, How about PondIQ!
Holy crap that's a great name. Short, easy to spell, descriptive...no way could PondIQ.com be available...but I checked anyways...it was available! And I do mean WAS, I have it now. Thanks. Can you do all my marketing?

With your knowledge and willingness to share information here, you are most welcome! I will dig out the relay board details I would be very interested in looking at other sensors that could be used for this type of automation......

Just a quick update. The weather & work & the fact that the pond where my fish were was being targeted by thieves meant that on Sunday, I had to act quickly.

So with a 10ft wide Intex pool in my garage I prepared it with 2000 litres of water, treated the chlorine, checked the ph and in the pouring rain and with the help of a 110 litre an hour pump I managed to drain enough of the pond to catch the fish and transport them. The pond was 7.6" at the deepest.

I opted for some 90cm x 60cm deep canvas Koi bowl/tanks. I put one in the back of my Land Rover with a third full of water from the temporary pond and headed off the 12 miles to get the fish.

It was a bit scary once when I had to heat the breaks, thankfully the self leveling suspension reacted fast enough to stop a big slop off water! In fact not a drop came out! :goldfish:

It was no fun in the rain, the fish all went to the bottom and draining was the only way, once started I could not stop so I worked on m own from 11:00 am to 1:00 am transporting fish.

The thieves had managed to pilfer 2 of the biggest Koi, but the bulk were to difficult to catch, which was tough on me!

So far there was one Goldfish with a lot white fungus around the eyes, which I destroyed rather than risk further outbreaks.

One of the large Koi has a small wound behind the dorsal, but it is beetr today than yesterday and I have some treatment arriving in the morning.

The fish were a bit shy for the first 48 hours, but are now feeding easily twice a day and swimming a lot.

One white Goldfish looks quite ill tonight swimming along the surface gulping air, in spite of the 6,600 liters an hour pump in a 4,000 litre tank and aerators.

I am monitoring ph and amonia daily and it is stable and acceptable.

this evening I decided to isolate the gulping fish and put it in a holding tank with a small pump and filter. None of the other fish are doing this.

In the morning I will post a picture

Looks great.

I never heard of canvas Koi bowl/tanks. Sounds like they worked well. Post a picture, or a link, please, if you get the chance.

I think it's a smart move not messing around with the white fungus and quickly dealing with the issue. To save fish you sometimes have to make tough choices.

I'm sure you already know, but many things can interfere with a fish's ability to breath. Low O2 in the water (movement, temp) is only one. Sometimes people just focus on the amount of O2 in the water and miss clues to a bigger picture. If lots of fish are gulping air, OK, water O2 level moves up the list. Smart to isolate the gulping fish. Could just be a sick fish, virus or whatever. Water temp near 75F?

This is what I used http://www.made-in-c...e-Koi-Tank.html it all folds into the little bag and is great for isolation with a small pump in.

I don't think it is O2 as I have got aerators in place as well as the pump shifting the water 1.5 times per hour. It is the one fish, unless I am about to get an outbreak..... Inevitably some fish are more traumatized than others, bearing in mind the fish had a significant journey.

The water temperature is 68F.

I have ordered a digital ph meter as I find the test kits to be a bit of a guess. I may be colour blind too!

Hopefully it is just an isolated case of a weaker fish.

The good news is that the others are very active and after just 4 days I think we have done well.

When I filled the pond we had a lot of rain so I used the rain water from my water butts which equalled 1,000 litres of the initial 2,000. I then gradually topped up with treated tap water. The butts are full again so I could drain of a 1,000 litres and fill from the rain.

It is 4 years since I was online and started my pond. I got seriously ill after the first dig and been in and out of hospital ever since. The fish have been well looked after in their 'temporary' home in my garage. I have been so ill that I was thinking about filling the hole in and getting rid of the fish. A couple of friends have started to help me get the job done this Summer as I don't have much physical strentgh. here they are laying the concrete for the filter.

@ Turtle mommy, Thank you. I would have been very sad to let the fish go. They have become very tame in the pool in the garage and they give me a lot of pleasure.

I am very excited to see the base for the filter going down. The next big job is to build the filter.. I will post as we go. Hopefully by the end of the Summer here it will be ready.

We, well my friends mostly have made some more progress. The plinth for the filter is now set and an area for the electrics shed has been done and they have strted to step the sides of the hole so that it is taken on a pond like shape.

It is now 2018 and between my last post I have been in and out of hospital many times with numerous issues. I think I have had general anesthetic 35 times since 2015! Apparently I am on the mend. My Koi are still in the garage.... Healthy and much bigger. So late this summer a Friend has been helping me to clear the overgrowth of years of neglect in my garden with the aim if finishing the pond for the Spring of 2019.

Progress has left a big hole and a concrete plinth for the filter. We managed to get a small shed up and electricity cable down to it.

I have bought three IBC 1000 liter food tanks to convert into a filter and plan to build this over the winter. I would love to hear from anyone that has used these to create a moving bed filter.
