I thought that this is a good article on algae, and how to keep it under control by re-establishing a balance in the pond.

The things is they say use peroxide a lot but they don't mention any effects it might have on koi .Strange but it even says it helps in the hatching of eggs

Why you using massive text and color? Add plants. If you are wanting a quick solution try the quilt batting. Also, not really recommending it, but it did work for me. I think it was tetra AQUACLEAR. Now, i did have to clean all of my filters every 4 hours but it did take care of it. Also had to clean them from an external source (my hose). Did the job in 2 days, but I took my fountain head off for extra aeration while it was in the pond. Takes 2-3 days. Just a thought.

my understanding is that hydrogen peroxide is one of the chemicals released by the decomposition of barley straw- so this is kind of a shortcut. I have put peroxide in my pond a few times, and had no harm to the fish.

That is what I have read also pafek, I used it in the spring for my pond in arizona when the algae would go crazy. A once a year treatment, wiped the string algae right out.

Ok, so this is where my head starts spinning. Your saying that the bio filter has nothing to do with destroying the algae? Nothing to do with keeping your pond free of algae? In my intro I mentioned how my pond crashed and was pea soup. The only thing I did was add more bio media. Did not add any more plants. So why did the water clear in two days.

Wow pafek, That was some article! It felt like I was back in school again. I think it really makes the case for what gets rid of green water and dispels a lot of the myths.

Lot of intresting read in there for sure! Some sounds like it's still be investigated but alot of good information to take into consideration.
