It's sunny here too right now but the temp is only 43*. I do see the fish hanging around the top now tho instead of always near the bottom. Thinking about turning the pump back on soon and doing some Spring cleaning

Great addy and hey, I have a splendid idea for you.........why don't you get some fish line and tie it to the corners of that liner piece and tie it off and your fish can have a safe haven to hide under..............................tee hee, don't ya just know I already read your other post

you may want to wait until it maintains 55* or above for a few days...give the fishes digestive tract time to acclimate itself

70 degrees here today and sunny. Put down 10 cubic yards of mulch and still have 2 left to do. My wife was cleaning out the skimmer basket, she opened it up and a frog was in there, unfortunately he jumped into the side that takes the water to the pump, by the time I got over there he was struggling to keep from going into the pump; I quickly went into action to shut the pump down. By the time I got if off he was no longer in the skimmer area so there was only one place he could be. So I opened up the priming pot of the pump and there he was. I dumped him into the pond and he was moving very slowly and only able to use one leg, one must have gotten hurt in the rollercoaster ride he took. After about 5 minutes he got out of the pond and was sitting on a rock. He may be dinner for someone tonight. I have had a few frogs get sucked into the pump only to find them days later bloated up and obviously dead.

My frog population has dwindled over the last several years, at one time I had about two dozen of the little guys around the pond but they seemed to have steadily declined. Not sure if the koi and goldies are eating the tadpoles and the other food frogs eat.

Frogs seem to like a fishless pond. The green ones here per the net, live only in fishless ponds. Will see if they come back now that I have 5 little fish! But they do have 4 little ponds they can go live in, that have no fish

I love these beautiful early spring teaser days! I counted all 10 fish this morning. There are 11 (I hope) but one is all black and is just a ghost who breaks the water once in a while. Iris are coming up, and there's a lily leaf making its way to the surface. Also pickerel weed and some other spikey thing that I thought was an annual. (and one clump of algae on the rock that sticks up out of the middle of the pond.) With all the natural disaster in our world right now, it's heartening to see the gentler and sweeter side of spring.

No frogs yet. There were two green frogs in the fall. Who knows what their fate was. And speaking of trapdoor snails... do they survive well in the frozen north?

Hi Rdk, re feeding fish now. You may want to take it really easy on feeding until you have built up some good bacteria that will take care of ammonia, nitrites and nitrate. Otherwise some of these can spike and create a lot of problems. I would let the fish eat algae and anything else they can find until the pond fully cycles. If you have a great filtration system you can probably be more aggressive with feeding.
Hi Joanie trapdoors will survive the winter, but not apple snails. I have my eye out for my frog too.
