probably the soak in barley does it sissy , as i just learned that a byproduct of this is hydrogen peroxide which apparently kills the algae .... please somebody ... anybody correct me if i am wrong ..

hydrogen peroxide does a great job on algae, I used it in my arizona pond. (no koi) . I would use 1 liter per 1000 gallons.

Hi Everyone. I've got a great diagram for a bio-filter that will keep hair algae and suspended algae at bay. Hair algae isn't so bad because the fish can eat it and it also helps to filter the water but it can also be a real pain.
If your pond has suspended or hair algae it means that it is not balanced, meaning that the filtration system isn't sufficient to remove ammonia and nitrites from the water and this is either due to a filtration system that is not large enough for the size of the pond and can't grow large enough colonies of good bacteria on the bio-media to starve out these algaes.
U.V. lights and barley straw are just quick fixes but don't address the real problem. Water changes from the bottom of the pond are also important to remove the excess nitrates which collect at the bottom of our ponds. Plants can only remove so much and that's why the water changes are so very important.

Yours Koily, Lorraine

Hi HTH. I'm afraid I don't know how, I'm not very computer savy but if I can send it to someone who knows what they're doing, that would be great.

Hi Addy, thanks so much for wanting to help me put the filter on this site. I got an e-mail from Chris and he has graciously offered and I think that the instructions will be on the site soon.

Again, thanks Addy.

Hugs, Lorraine

Ah Bless you Addy. I was just talking with Chris and he said that he would put them up but I had no idea it could be done so quickly. If you have any questions about the little boxes I make, just let me know. I know how well they work for me as far as keeping small debris out of the pond and making it safe for my babies.

Laughing koilady, no problem. It can get confusing, multiple names emails, forum names on and on. Oh and a "real" name. I forget whom I am occasionally.
