I'm going to put my 2 cents worth in here since nothing else is helping. Sissy, its great to see you back around, but why haven't you mentioned your quilt batting filter process? I used it on my pond when it was green and it took about a week for my water to be clear. There's a lot of perimeters here I know nothing, notta, zip about but I do know that the quilt batting worked for me.

The cycle bacteria that consume or convert ammonia and nitrite live on surfaces. Not in the water. What's in the water?

As far as I was aware, I thought that anyone with a well had their water tested.
The water could be a fresh source of nutrients and/or contaminates for nuisance algae.
Lab well water testing is a free service for us here.
(Especially with all the fracking that goes on )

Fracking Mitch thats dirty word in the UK at the moment , its already caused an earthquake in the UK , Priscilla if your doing everything right when it comes down to your pond then its simply a waiting game now but as Meyer has already pointed out "a Nitrate level of 20 along with green water indicates that the Nitrate level is too high for even all of your plants AND the planktonic algae to absorb. Killing off the algae through the use of UV will only then reveal the true Nitrate level which is likely at least double what you are showing now.
You have enough Nitrate in your pond to support the current algae bloom and still have a considerable amount still present".
So if you having problems with your nitrate you have to ask yourself why ?
May I ask how many times a day you feed your fish ?
Stopping feeding for a week may help you get things going in the right direction again ,question do you get this problem with your other pond if NO then look at the differences between the two.
What shade do your ponds have are they in anyway different , do you get run off to your pond dfrom the garden etc
Eventually through a process of illimination you'll get to the bottom of this and thus cure your green water .

Problem is Mitch is the UK government think its the way forwards for the UK and are issuing licences for test drills even though we had that earthquake there are prortests going on at these test sites but with the long arm of the law and or security firms its making it hard to stop them , thankfully the areas they are doing this in are now seeing both the protesters and the residents of that area banding together to fight this

The problem is the power that easy money has over our governments. The recent decision from the Saudis will throw a bit of a wrench into the works.
We should try to use less energy, not more.

But I can be cheap...

(Sorry, Priscilla. :))

Question: Since I have done so MANY water changes recently, wouldn't that take down my phosphorous levels?

I do want to clear the water and re do the test so I can see the true levels.

Getting rid of my fish isn't an option. I will expand the pond by adding a second pond and connecting it with a stream. I can also do regular water changes if my levels are too high. I will continue to add plants if I need to. Plenty of space for plants. I now have a free source of water hyacinths (if the fish would stop eating them!).

Like Meyer said earlier, the UV was masking existing problems.
- so you can do one of 2 things -
Get the UV running again and have life get back to normal, or worry about how far off your pond water is from high quality and do what it takes to be able to run your pond without UV.
It's your choice.:)

I think expanding the pond will do that, along with water changes and more plants.

Not much else I can do since I'm not getting rid of any fish. I also will not be getting any new fish.
