If you can, you could add some rocks to your waterfall so the water hits them before the splash into the pond. Round rocks make the water sort of just flow into the pond rather than spash.

Hi Addy

Yeah that is what I was thinking , so a few large round stones sitting in the water below the falls so the waterfall hits that first etc , yeah ?

Sitting in the water would be fine, just adjust until you get the sound you like.

Have to watch that they don't splash the water out of the pond if you try that .

Yeah deffo Sissy , using round rocks should soften that , its just a matter of positioning them to get it right ... WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Watch how the wind blows the water too. I have some wind splash, but not enough to worry about. Mine falls about 4 feet.

No I didnt leave any gap to be honest ......im hoping there wouldn't be a need to as the area where i built the waterfall is the lowest point in the pond and I am hoping that if it rains etc an overfill will seep on here anyway....

You think I need to do this anyway ? I don't really fancy redoing the few hrs I spent today , again .
I can't really tell without seeing the build. If you already mortared over the gap that will reduce wicking.

If there's a good foundation behind the liner some wicking isn't probably going to be a problem. If it's just soil a little wicking can turn the soil to mud and then the weight of the falls sinks pulling down the pond liner and that's really when wicking causes a problem.

The amount of drop is completely meaningless. Capillary action can raise water more than 100 feet. It's an interesting concept that because someone else says they don't have a problem with their pond that your build will some how be OK. I wired my house with coat hangers and it hasn't burned down, so it must be safe for everyone. Scary.

I might, the flow is from a 650 gph clear water pump. Let me check.
Nope just stream flow and the stream waterfalls, not the deck waterfall. We didn't have it built when I did the little bit of filming I did. The clear water pump works great with the head pressure we have, it is rated for 115 feet.

This is a side shot of the water fall

making some progress with this .... I am thinking about wether to use a fabricated waterfall weir / spillway or should I construct one myself using the surplus liner + rocks .. recommendations ?

Hey

Ok so I bought a 10 gallon header tank (used to feed your central heating) and cut a slot out of this , hopefully this will feed my fall and slow the water down a bit .

weir1.jpg

weir2.jpg

I was going to use the piece I cut out as a clamp and glue and screw this back on clamping my liner to the weir , and also find something to put up the sides , shouldnt be hard to find 2 strips of strong plastic to clamp the side pieces.

I plan to either bury this or have it sitting on the liner - and cap the weir with a flagstone to hide it etc .

Any suggestions / feedback ?

Thanks addy - that flagstone in the pic above is actually for the water to fall over, not the weir cover (in case you were thinking that) , i was going to put the weir behind that again , maybe a step above so the water flows out of weir, onto a stone , onto the smooth stone and then into the water.
I am just worried I will be losing water out of the weir if its not sealed correctly around the liner so i suppose I could sit it on the liner and let gravity take course or use my other suggestion and clamp liner to it .

Another option is to make a weir from liner and stones but the problem there is how to secure the 2" pipe into this .
