I only uncover my pond and turn the 3-way valve that returns my pond water to the waterfall.

I clean up and ensure a healthy winter with Prazi in the fall. In spring I use barley bales in my filter, add 50 lbs crushed oyster, and bentonite clay (in the form of pure clay clumping cat litter). The crushed oyster gives me a higher kH to regulate pH, barley to slow the string algae down. Salt, for me, is a QT thing, dimilin to be used only if required (fish lice, anchorworms).

I wouldn't even use the Prazi, except (for now) I have a less than desirable filter/prefilter, and I'm afraid of bad things growing down there.

are you planning on rebuilding your filter then so you don't have to worry as much .I know this year I had to rebuild both of my filters and waterfalls to make them work better .If you feel it's not what you want for a filter it's better just to bite the bullet and change ,sometimes easier said than done but will have to be done sooner than later

I added "None" to the poll, in case some of the members in that category didn't vote before.

Sissy, consider that bullet bitten. I'm actually redesigning my entire yard and expanding my pond to 5000g, plus adding a bog garden and stream, goldfish pond, and QT. In fact, maybe I'll start a new thread on the process.
