I'd love to build something like this, but don't have good skills. Is it a simple enough design, that I could learn it?

really easy 4 deck boards what ever length and 2x4's and 4x4.s .I did cut 6 inch's off the 4 x4's so it was not so high .I will take pics to explain it

ok best i can explain it last pic is them laying down ontop of each other so i could square them up .Because if the legs are not square it will not be level .Electrical conduit with hole drilled through a deck board that is screwed to the outside top 2x4 more to follow

I build the U channel first then attach the legs to it and then I have one side done part way except for adding corner braces inside the U channel

Sissy, You are more talented with wood and tools than me!! I'm so impressed, you'll really enjoy these, especially next spring / summer. I will continue to look this over....maybe something will sink into my teeny tiny brain!!

Well helped my neighbor surprise his wife today with one.He bought all the stuff yesterday and he was so worried she would see the wood ,but she didn't .I gave him a list of what to buy and he had his 3 sons come over this morning .They followed direction and each one was given a job and I did the cutting and they did the big work.His wife Patty saw mine on face book and made a comment to him about it .Took 5 hours to get everything perfect .It was for her birthday today .She has wanted shade on her deck for years and it is 12 x14 .He put a big bow on it .He added the plastic small hole lattice on top of the 2x4's .She just got home from work. hope she is happy and surprised .He was amazed at how easy it was to build .He has a concrete slab under his deck so it did not need much anchoring .He had the deck built over the slab because she hated the step down to the concrete .I think the hardest part was getting the lattice locked down to the top of it .Stupid lattice was 12 ft long x 4 ft wide

Well Patty came over and gave me a 100 dollar gift certificate for home depot .The smile on her face was worth a thousand dollars though .She is so happy with her new pergola and that she can't wait to show it off to every one she must have 15 pics of it on her cell phone to show it to co-workers and every one she sees .She showed me pics LOL I know I was there .But it made me happy any ways ,she is off now to look at lighting for it .

Looks awesome sissy! Next years plan is to build a pergola to the west of the pond over another sitting area to be made...possibly raised to overlook the pond

For once I woke up and it feels like instant spring! Snow all melted and it's got to be almost 70 degrees outside and I'm still in Canada and it's still January! Must have stole your weather Sissy! Can't hardly believe you got ice!
