I was going to shut them off inside at the switches and I didn't .I did not factor in the wind chill making it that bad .I was looking at the temps .but not the wind chill .Live and learn .I have a stack of GAF shingles and then found on the internet that a lot of them were recalled because the tar strip on them was not mixed and distributed right .I have the warranty and e -mailed them

Well I found the gaf sight for the shingles I registered and they are on the recall list .I wrote down the numbers on each bag piece and kept that part of the flap and I was never notified .The ones on the carport and the guest house were both on the list .The house the back ones are on the list but the front ones I can't find that number on there list .The front ones were put on with the newer ice and water shield and the back ones were put on with the older style ice and water shield .Both recommended by GAF for there architectural shingles

Front ones were redone when the front porch was built in 2007 .Back ones do look degraded and look bad for wear considering the house was only built in 2004 and they are 30 year shingles

So sissy if they are recalled are you still responsible for having somebody put them back on or do they pay for that also?

I really have no clue .I will have to find out and also find out what the insurance company says on the damage to the ones on the carport .The section is bigger than I thought and there was only tar paper under them and if I do them again they will have ice and water shield put under them also .That side gets the most wind the other side is next to the house .Being up on a hill when the wind blows it blows hard .It does say in there recall they pay tear out and reinstall of new shingles

Totally agree jw, the insurance company usually pays on the age of the roof, they deduct. I lost my arizona house roof during 140 mph winds one summer, The entire north side roof was gone down to the wood. The insurance company prorated it for replacement money. (3000 houses lost their roofs during that storm)

So I wonder up to what speed of wind is insured? Maybe there is a limit on what they will cover. That can't be true tho can it cuz then tornado's and such would not be covered. Just seems like if you are supposed to be covered you should be able to insure for full new roofing installation and product. If they say it should last for 30 yrs then it should. I suppose they have the small print tho.

The roof on both were done in 2007 so they are not that old and the house was 2004 and the defective shingles came from there Alabama plant .Which the ones on the house since they were sent with the house I have no clue where they came from .Norris homes built my house in Tennessee .The wind gust here were from 60 to 65 up by my house .I have no tree protection up on the hill .The info is from the Axton weather service tower which is only a half mile from my house and gives that info when you register for it if you live in Axton .I can see the weather tower from my house and saved the info to show Brethern insurance in Hagerstown Maryland

Even an inch can make a mess here, the dc traffic is so horrible. Luckily honey does not need to drive to work anymore.
