Careful when ordering cuz I looked and that is 25 Liter's not 25 lbs sissy. It's 8.27 lbs when you zoom in on the bag.

I ended up ordering two bags of the 3.08lbs (blue bag) from Foster and Smith Aquatics for $52 with free shipping which was good. I'll have plenty for a couple seasons. Gotta head out - It was great chatting with you guys I appreciate all the good info and tips. Have a great weekend..

Coming in here late, just wanted to say we live in zone 7 and run a 500 GPH pump
all winter long. It has frozen over many times, but under the frozen mass the water still flows out.
We also use a aquarium type air stone in the winter. We don't use a heater.

Winter question:

During the last 2 winters I shut off the pump but was considering running it all year.

As you might know, I've got a complex network of concrete canals and aqueducts with very narrow passages where water cascades from one level to the next. Maybe these pictures will help. The narrow passage examples are near the beagles feet in both photos.

I don't keep fish, btw.

I'm worried about the passages freezing and the water overflowing the levees. You know, I think Niagara falls once froze over.

Anyway, I'm using Aquamax 1200 gpm or gph? pump but the flow is too great so I send back 600 gpm to the pond via a t flow connection. So IOW, the flow keeps all the water moving but not high speed moving.

I would be afraid that it would create an ice damn and the water would go outside the canal. I am not sure I would chance it IMO.

Thanks, Todd, probably I'll shut her down mid-December. I think the flow will keep it going but when it dips into teens and lower 20s that's when I'm afraid of a deep freeze

I'm in Northeast Pennsylvania.
I always shut down my waterfall in fear of the water flowing over the frozen pond and draining all the water out. I take the pump inside and store it in a bucket filled with water to prevent the rubber parts from drying out.
I always add a floating deicer to keep an open area for the gasses to escape.
I do keep a smaller pump going all winter in the center of the pond to keep a constant flow and to add some aeration. This small pump (550 gph) is sitting in a bucket covered with lava rock (filtration) and the water is directed just below the surface via 3/4 pvc creating a nice geyser about 6 - 8 inches above the surface.

I have an external pump and when I take it in for the winter I put some vaseline around the rubber gaskets to keep them from drying out.
