Howard - This seems to be the concept. I'm curious to hear if your "down up flow" filters worked, and if so - how often did you clean the filters?

btw - Hope you're safe. sounds like a tough time for you in oklahoma...
Yes safe as we are about 400 miles away.

I opened the bottom to back flush it about once a week.

I have it hooked now to my overloaded holding tanks/lift setup while the pond is being redone. The ammonia exiting it is 1/2 PPM lower then the water entering it. So that part works. I do not know that it is fully cycled and there is some ammonia removal via green water (a good thing in this case). It has a rio 2500 which should be flowing about 530 gph which is low but seems to work.

Crap come out when it is back flushed.

Thinking it would do ok on a 1000 or 1500 gallon pond with normal stocking levels.

Guess it works :)

There are so many variables.

I had used it on our 'for sale' pond. The pond was small but we were moving lilies in and out of it frequently and a lot of dirt got dumped into the system. Generally it would clear the water in about a day but then it was not very deep or big. The pump was small so it was not near max capacity flow wise.

What are you thinking about for the new filtration system for the pond you're doing? Settlement Chamber or something like the Radial Flow?

I am thinking about several new ponds. I heed to play with using one of the cubes/lifts as a radial flow filter. Thinking maybe 4 or more down pipes to more evenly distribute the water and keep velocities down. I thik at least one will have some sort of open baki tower but I do not know what I would use for the medium.

I have a roll of 10 foot liner that would be great for a stream but for the problem of a flat yard. Maybe a short one.

Right now I am still hauling the crap from the bottom of the old pond.

My apology to the OP.
