Self-Sustained & Low Maintance Pond?

Could i hook up two 30g trash cans behind the waterfall? Could that be the bog filtration or how does that work. Is that too small for a pond lightly stocked.. i vision a pond with a waterfall with plants all around it.. filtration hidden behind the waterfall and i would half dig them into the ground so they are not so tall and blocking my fence and other palm trees. And what is difference from a bog and a tote and.are there other.options? How do i make the waterfall into filter

I put lava rock in my filters and plants in it too really helps clean the water in the filter .I did not have to clean my filters at all last summer and they are still running the same way .A small pond with a light load will not need much of a filter .I just bought 2 tote's and doubled them up and drilled a hole in them and put a tank adapter I bought at pet mountain .com and ran a pipe out to the waterfall.I have 2 filters and 2 waterfalls

Nice photos. So what is the difference from running a garbage can or bog or tote. What is the best?

they would all be the same ,just maybe harder to hide .I used totes because they were cheap and need to double them up or they will split the sides out and empty your pond .Submerged pumps will do the same if there is a leak so don't put it on the bottom of the pond .I put liner around my filters where if they leak it will run right back into the pond .This is a plantainer I bought at lowes .The tank adapter is put into the plantainer and then it has screw pieces of plumbing to screw them together .I have lava rock in the filter and plants on top .The T pipe hooks up inside the plantainer and the water from the pond goes in the top and comes up and out the T to the tank adapter
