Paul; I have the perfect solution to your rock problem! Many of the stores and mallf around here have raised curbs to mark the ends of the parking-lot rows. They used to plant them, but that required too much upkeep, so they filled these "islands" with river rock. Just park in the space beside an "island", and surreptitiously lean out of the car door, snatch a few rocks, and place them on the floor behind your seat! Oh, and don't tell anyone it was MY idea, OK?

Paul, Don't be surprised when your stone washed jeans go up in price because everybody took the rocks from the parking lot and the merchant's rent went up! Seriously I think it's better to find non-owned rocks. There are plenty to choose from. a friend and I recently helped a woman get her pot back from a homeless man that was picking up scrap. He just jumped over her fence to take it. it didn't really hurt anyone, at least that's what he thought. She was pretty upset and happy that someone helped her get her belonging back.

LOL..... "... and in breaking news, this afternoon a local man was arrested after it was discovered that he's been landscaping his garden pond with contraband stone. Police are tight-lipped about the case, only saying that the investigation is "on-going". In a related story, it seems local mall planters have had diminishing stocks of so-called river stone. It seems that at the crime scenes, the only thing found were notes written in red crayon that simply said "Muh-hahahahaha!" Coincidentally, red crayons were found scattered all over the back yard of the man arrested this afternoon. We'll continue to follow this story as it develops giving up-dates as they occur."

I agree .... found stones on free land is the way to go. 90% of all my rock was purchased. A just found a few nice "ditch rocks" in several places.... I'd never take stone from property without permission. I actually got some that way once. A local country store owner had a huge amount of flagstone that he had dumped out back to make a bigger parking area. I asked if I could buy some off of him, and he just told me to take what ever I want. That's what I made my stone path with in the backyard.

A few days later, I went in to buy a bottle of water, and I left him an envelope beside his cash register with $50 in it and a thank you note with out him noticing.. then slipped out.

Paul, lol. I loved the part about the red crayons. Oh I get it about the pot. Shows my age I guess. It was made of metal. Thought that would be obvious if he was picking up scrap. We called the police when it happened and they never even showed up. I guess in certain Chicago neighborhoods stealing is not a crime. The police are too busy investigating gangbangers that are shooting at each other.
