If you didn't want to use flexible PVC there is also a method where you can heat rigid PVC pipe and bend it reducing the number of connections you need. You can bend it to any angle you need. I can't remember who it was but it is in a thread somewhere. My be less expensive.

Waterbug has posted a thread of at least a response in detail about bending rigid pipe.

In short a smooth walled pipe with large radius bends will reduce the resistance to water flow. You get more flow with the same pump and the same energy cost.

Total Dynamic Head (TDH) is the total equivalent height that a fluid is to be pumped, taking into account friction losses in the pipe.
This and this are simplistic total dynamic head calculator that will let you experiment with different pipe sized and materials.

The results may surprise you.

I have access to flex PVC pretty cheap so my real decision is 1 1/2 or 2" pipe. I am adding a skimmer and from there running it into my Laguna pressurized filter out to a 100 gal skippy with that being the waterfall/ return. I was thinking of just doing it all in 1 1/2 but I just wanted some other opinions. Thanks for the help

I expect the Laguna pressurized filter presents a lot of head. Have you measured you GPM with it in place using the 2000gph pump?

I have not checked that nor am I really sure how? The laguna filter and pump was put together as a combo from them.

You can measure the flow any place where the water can be captured with a 5 gallon pail and something to count seconds.. The flow is the same on the pressurized and return runs. Depending on the installation it might be hard to do with the pond in operation.
