Maybe it's the added sunlight from cutting back the tree that's contributing to the algae growth.
It could be just a short phase...
I've gotten short spells with chunks of algae in the past. It usually dissipates in a week or so. Hopefully that will happen for you as well.
Algae is a plant that thrives on excess nutrients created by the fish waste.
Do you have any plants in your pond? Plants compete with the algae and can help starve it out.
Too much of a fish load will cause an overabundance of nutrients in the water, which will increase algae growth.
How many gallons is the pond? How many fish, how big are they and what type of fish are in there?
Inadequate filtration can be a factor. What type of filter is being used? Is it large enough?
Don't clean the filter pads with water treated with chlorine. The chlorine will kill the beneficial bacteria. If the home has central water, odds are it's chlorinated. Rinse the pads in a bucket of pond water.
Just rinse the pads, not the other parts of the filter that contain beneficial bacteria colonies which are essential.
