Spring is coming!! Last night the fish were all out and about, they have been sneaking out of their winter dens at night, I see them when the underwater pond lights are on, they sneak out and eat algae when nobody looking. It is strange how they are so shy each the spring, after a long cold winter.

I just saw them in your other thread and yep they are easy to see now in the light. My hubby was mowing our grass today and some tiny pieces flew into the pond. It was so nice today I think they thought someone threw them some food. They looked disappointed when they tasted it tho. Poor neglected starving babies :X3:

No Charcoal in it Sissy, just inner core filter inside. I think they are very well made and they seem to work very good for me all winter. Tomorrow I am off work and it should be warmer out, so I will try to made a video of the filter and what it looks like all apart, and how it connects to the pump. Winter does not affect this filter cause it is underwater.

I don't think my hubby thinks it's nice to be able to mow but it is nice for the weather to be warmer here.

I think the inner core of the filter is more dense and the outer is more sparse.

Lucky you! I wish things would start to green uo here too, but it is too early and the ground is still frozen hard down deep, front yard takes forever for bulbs to come up cause it is in the shade still mostly, and still very wet and mushy on top, but if you dig down, it is still frozen.
The big koi are mowing the algae down quick in the top pond, and biggest orange koi looks bigger again! :)

We've already had to mow 2 times here. Still chilly out there now and then tho. Water in pond is cold and fish go up and down depending on the warmth of the day. I see them nibbling at things like algae and plant roots and I'm sure they are getting some of the Hornwort.

They will eat lot of hornwort this time of the year, they can munch it down to nothing some springs, but then Yummy bugs show up and they forget all about the hornwort and start eating bugs instead. If you think they are eating too much, take a piece out and save and grow in jar of water.

It will be kind of nice now that I have video, cause this spring you can watch my pond slowly come back to life and shine in all it's full glory in the sunny summer! :) I will still post pictures too and this year I think I will still post on my other thread cause people may be watching to see how my pond comes back to life on the winter thread too I think.

I have some excess Hornwort in a tub in the backyard so if they eat it all it's ok. Anyway in the big pond I have it in a big floating plant ring w/ screen underneath. I did punch some bigger holes in it for better circulation so now some of the smaller fish can get in there. The big pig ones can't tho

Later in the spring you can throw some outside of the ring and see how it grows in deep water. I find it does grow best in rapid churning water with lots of movement, then it floats so nice and turns all around and grows so good then even with my big monster koi!

Aha that is good to know as it is in still water now. I did just put some in the main part a couple days ago but not enough to notice. I'll throw more from the tub in the backyard in too. Hope it grows nice and plentiful like yours does. Only goldfish here so maybe it will do fine.
