my uncle has a really lrg natural bottom pond that went to hell on him hes requested my assistance in getting it back in shape im estimating the pond is close to 50000 gallons. It got covered in algae this summer and all his fish died so hes wanting me to somehow build him a waterfalls off one of the banks to get some circulation and aereation going in it Ive been searching the web for a heavy duty pump that maybe runs on 220v but am having little luck in finding one that pumps much over 10000 gph do you think that would be enough for such a lrg pond any help or suggestions in accomplishing the task at hand will be appreciated

you would have to look under lakes supplies or large pond supplies for larger pumps

Just type whatever size pump you want into Google and they will pop up. I really have limited experience maintaining a pond of that size. Do you have a picture. I would be tempted to say you may be best off with something like a fountain or 2 fountains depending on the shape of the lond. Are there a lot of trees etc around dropping all sorts of debris into the pond? As far as what size pump is really needed.... I don't think there is a perfect answer. Is there fish in this pond?

They also have large aerators for ponds but they are not cheap .Here farm ponds use them or those floating fountain heads .They churn the water up .

well he wants a waterfall after he seen mine on my little 11' round pond he loved it and decided he wanted one i guess the falls would be more of a showpiece than a whole pond aerator i let him know about them windmill kits

They sell windmill kits cheap at northern tool .I found that you can look at large swimming pool pumps .But again they are not cheap .The hotel in Martinsville has a big pool with a big waterfall on one side .Plus I saw them down in Cherokee NC also

Go look at Aquatic Eco.

I don't think you really want a water pump. I think you want an air pump. Though, that isn't going to do a waterfall. And a waterfall I doubt will do anything at all to help the pond overall. If he wants a waterfall just for the ambiance of a waterfall, get the size pump you need for the waterfall. If you want to fix the total pond problem, look at air.

Actually, if he just wants a waterfall, you don't need a humongous pump. I would think a 1000gph would do. Just add a very long hose so you get some circulation. How big of a waterfall does he want anyway? Unless he wants a Niagara sized waterfall, any regular pond pump will do.

The way I read it he wants the pump and waterfall to help aerate the pond to clean it up some .But I think he is going to need more than 1 waterfall for that .I know around here they also use the bioverse ball not sure what it does or whats in them but I always see those tan balls floating around

Figure out how wide you want the waterfall (in inches). Multiply that by 100, and you get the GPH needed to give you a nice flow over your falls. A 3' wide falls takes around 3,600 GPH , unless of course you're going for the old Chinese water torture effect!

Interesting. Never heard of bioverse balls until now. I checked their website and unfortunately, they don't say what's in the ball. Nor does any other website, all other ones I can find are just testimonials, which are useless.

Also, for a 50K gallon treatment it's about $25/month and it's a recurring thing. I guess if it works, $300 a year is not a bad deal to keep a 50K gallon pond clean without doing any work.

But what is it?
