You only have one pump correct? Think of the skimmer as a prefilter for the pump. It traps the large debris to prevent it from clogging the pump. The water then goes to your biofilter and back to the pond.

Yes, I only have 1 pump and I don't think it's enough for the new size I'll be implementing.
picture 1 is the interior of the entire skimmer box
picture 2 is where the pump is located(inside the skimmer box) and I think it's a submersible waterfall pump.

the concern I have is that this is the only pump I have for the entire pond.

I was going to put up the electric wire but the way my pond is laid out prevent me from doing so.
with the water fall in place, I cannot surround the entire pond.
do you have a suggestion on what else I can do?

You live in warm Cali so you could use a Water Scarecrow shooter that senses when something comes near and shoots a blast of water. It won't freeze in your area. You may need more than one tho so you can set up the area around your whole pond. Just be careful and remember it's there when you go out or you will get a nice cool surprise

Haha, thank you for the suggestion.
I'll place couple of those censor scarecrows and I've just received my raccoon trap today.
