Val and I decided today to go visit our local garden centre up in Crownhill Plymouth , I say garden centre but the original use for where its situated is acctually a battery built by Lord Parmerston when he built all his follies to protect us from the french back in the day when we were at war with France.

http://www.plymouth.gov.uk/palmerstonforts

They were all built facing inland to protect the dockyards around the country and he was convinced if they invaded they would come overland not by see hence the folly
We had a lovely meal whilst there both of us ordering plowmans lunches then after our meal we went round looking for decor for the ponds decoration once the painting of the decking paint is complete.
I spent yesterday painting the rails up the steps and the ones both sides pathway to the pond , so today was a little retail therapy allowing my body to get back on track from yesterday's by taking it easy.
We found what we were looking for in a buddha wall plaque which is 20" by 20" with the face of the buddha having a slighly turned look which is in relief .
I must say it looks pretty cool and we have just the place to put it on the pond on the panel facing you as you come up the steps to the pond .
All will be revealed when the pond is finished cosmeticly hopefully by the end of the season if things go to plan

Dave

Glad you got to have a nice time there and enjoy a good lunch and come home w/some artwork for the pond. All we did today was go to a car show in the rain and get some free popcorn from the hardware store. The only war thing going on was when I walked by a guy and his father who I have a restraining order against but fortunately they didn't see me when I walked by them or WW3 could have erupted

I am anxious to get home and put some of my pond decor out. Fortunately, it's been rainy and cool while I've been away, or I'd be even more homesick for my pond.

J.W., Glad no WW3 erupted.

Gee glad your safe J.W., I'm chiming in on this because my husband and I went on a "Pond Tour" last weekend and at the last pond we put our tickets in for a prize and he was the Grand Prize Winner!!!!!! ....of a frog spitter and pump!!! We don't even have our pond running yet! I will post a pic of where I am on the "What does your Pond look like today" thread soon. I'm a little nervous because I am rocking it and sealing them in place and I know many don't like rocks. No gravel!!!

So Dave54 I'm glad you started this. I do have my eye on some super cool flat as pancake rock for the shelves and can't wait to buy them all. Thanks for the history lesson it was fascinating.

@Dave 54 Long story. End result the son was charged w/ felony harassment for pointing a gun at me and saying if I took one more step he would shoot me. He was a juvenile so spent some time in kid jail and his father threatened me also so I got a years worth of restraint from the judge against them which ends next month. They are our neighbors down the road. Father is a felon also w/ criminal drug history etc. Need them to move away................I wish!

Car show was nice just drizzly a little and all the car guys were out there w/ rags drying all their cars. I took pics of the cars although I'm not really into cars. Was just something fun to do w/ hubby in our small town :)

I'll be ok Lou. I'm not going to continue the restraining order unless they start to bug me again. I think the son is done bothering me, it's just the dad who holds the grudge. He is a mad man but I stay away from him when I can. I carry a phone just for 911 w/ me when I walk. Thanks Lou for your concern.

j.w. you take good care of yourself and the minute that order runs out I'd renew it if I were you girl , just to be on the safe side , your felons make our look innocent,.
They are all a bunch of really bad hombres (this is why I despair about your gun laws)

Been there and it sucks. Had a bad neighbor issue similar, but mine discharged a 308 Lee Enfield w cops in my driveway. Needless to say we didn't have to worry about him for quite a while after that.

Be safe.

If your ever in the UK be sure to visit one of the ones that are open to the public, the one here in Plymouth that is open "CrownHIll Fort" is seeped in history as it was in use from when it was built to the early 1980's by the army if you look closely at the white washed walls you can find the signatures of the men who servred there.
During WWII it was used as a flck battery protecting the Naval dockyard because of its high elevation .
It is huge in size only eclipsed by Screasden fort in Cornwall which has three levels to it , sadly its not open to the public as it is still in use by the Royl Navy but is in a pretty run down state with the tunnels on the left hand side of the fort flooded .
We used to take Naval Trainee's up there on weekend orienttion exersise and use the unflooded part as a large assault course which is a swine to run as it ends with a 500 step assent from the bottom reaches of the fort to the parade ground area , I know I ran it when I recatted my carreer and had to run it .
I much prefared my later ships company posting to the resourse and initative training centre which meant we took trainee's there to do the hard work

Dave, My 13 AND 16 year old boys love all the documentaries of all the wars that are on TV. So TV isn't all that bad because they know way more about history then I do. Here in the States we don't have the same sort of historic battle lands, other then the founding and civil war areas. We are just a much younger land. None the less what we have seen is very exciting and to stand on the same ground as our founders is awesome. Our east coast is rich in history but we don't get to visit often.

Oh wow we put up the buddha and the effect as you walk up to the pond from bellow the steps is simply stunning the head draws your attention and your eyes onto the pond in a very suttle way , now we have to decide on the colour decking paint we want to go with it
Weve also decided to use the patterning around the pond that Jeff made out of decking either first stained and then varnished or different colours of varnish it should be quite a pleasing effect :D

War is bad after being in the military and hearing the tales of others it should be banned totally and a peaceful option be found , after all its the Political elk who fail to talk to one another that are the main cause , we just sort out those mistakes .
Lancashire and Yorkshire volunteered en-mass to fight WW1 and at the end there were hundereds of thousands of widows grieving for their men folk my grand parents would never talk about WW1 now I know why
