Like others have said no, I don't ever drain my pond completely as it can cause many issues rebuilding the natural echo system. I also stopped doing 10% water changes weekly last year but instead let the hose sit on the edge of the pond with a slow drip coming out all summer. It kept the pond at a constant level with no water changes. Spring and fall I do a 25% water change.
Do you have a picture of your setup?

I think we lost track of the original question. A COMPLETE change of 20,000 gallons of water??? How do you re-fill it? With my well, I'd probably run out after a few hours of pumping. And what would it cost on a municipal system? Maybe get a water truck or two to bring it in? Just curious. :dunno:

I will take some pics when it warms up. as far as refilling we have city water but no sewer. so we don't pay sewer charge on water bill. we live in a town with 250 people, very cheap water. it wouldn't cost 100 buck to fill it. when I filled it the hose ran for days lol. I do pump out 1000 gallons a week when I clean all the filters out, and usually turn the hose on for a hour a day after work to top it off

It took me a week plus to fill our pond with our well, I would only run the hose for a few hours each day. Sure don't want a dry well.

Sounds neat sawlog looking forward to your pictures
