Ok- that's it! Never knew the name but I wish I had found this out a couple of years ago. at least I now know what it is!

The leaves look like one I have that the lady at the garden center said it can be in a bog. Not sure if it's the same plant.

We often see them growing on beaches around here (Lake Ontario). I guess they re-seed themselves. Either that, or they are quite hardy.
