Why not put 3/4 plywood (won't flex or bend) on an angle from the top of the wall to the ground and wedge it in place. Water's weight will keep it inplace once you fill the pond. Fairly cheap to buy.

I would use scrap carpet. That is what I rimmed my lower pond with to help protect the liner from old concrete and roots. You can probably get all you want behind any carpet place. They have to pay to have it recycled.

Great idea on the carpet. I'll use it.

Yes, there are fish. We have 5 Koi and quite a few goldies. Part of the reason for the expansion is while the fish load is borderline now, the Koi are growing like weeds,

I used acrylic blankets that I picked up at garage sales and second hand stores as underlayment. They provide a firm cushion and wont rot. If u use carpet, be sure to go oner it real well and make sire all the staples and tacks are out.

Good point if you live where people have wood flooring or second stories. Most everyone here have concrete slabs.

Good idea. I've placed another 18 stones. Getting closer to the falls on both sides.

I've two ideas on handling the falls rebuild so I can keep it running.

1) large 34 gallon plastic storage bucket with 4 in bulkhead in bottom connected to 4 inch flexible drain hose. Don't know yet if the 4 in can carry off water faster than it'll fill. IF it doesn't

2) build plywood ramp with 2X6 sides, line it with liner and mount it on saw horses at enough of an angle to carry the water, but high enough to tear out the original structures. I'll have to modify this ramp as I move the falls, but it should work.

Few more pictures. My dog was kind enough to lend me her pool so I could cool off--it was hot.

I've done all I can on the wall until after I reconstruct the waterfall. I re-measured the water depth and realize I'm going to want to dig out the original hole about another foot. Silverdragon, didn't you say you ended up digging down some more as well. IF I don't dig down total depth will be around 54" so I'm going to add a foot.

Started the waterfall reconstruction today. I built an aqueduct out of 1/2 inch plywood with 2X6s on each side. I built a 2X6 frame to hold the upper end and used a ladder for the bottom. Now the water is being diverted over the previous construction so I can tear it out. In order to rebuild the waterfall I have to clear out the first area completely.

Yep, you got it and it is a hassle, but doable. today I was able to clear out enough of the previous stream bed to finish the wall. You can see the slab my neighbor and I put in initially in anticipation of a big rock waterfall. I'm actually cutting and gluing the landscaping stones to the slab rather than trying to break up that slab.

Note the foto of the EasyPro filter box. The one side is covered with a product called rock on a roll. helped hide it in it's previous configuration.

Today i decided the digging part of this project is nuts. If I go up one more level on the rocks I don't have to dig. I'll end up with just under 60 inches depth and the "new" expanded areas will be 23-24 inches deep without digging. So, since I had the rocks left over, I went ahead and put them in place. Frankly it looks a little imposing without any water or plants. but I think it's a good call. See what you think.

Well, Deb & I looked at it and looked at it and got a couple second opinions from friends. 4 levels is too much. It'll put the water level up where you can't see it much from the house side deck. Also it would put the boardwalk and deck up too high. So it's back to 3 levels and digging. Oh well. I've asked my neighbor to take over for awhile while my shoulder heals. He's a very hard worker and charges a very reasonable rate.

Ordered the liner friday from PondLiners.com in Oklahoma. Bought our last liner there and so did our neighbor. Reputable folks. 25X35 cost just under $600 delivered. 281 pounds.
