Regular plastic pots, the ones with 4 or 5 holes around the bottom. I cut a piece of landscape fabric to line the pot so nothing is washed out the holes, and place the planted pot in a pail of water for a few hours to a day before placing in the pond. Lower it into the water s-l-o-w-l-y, and you shouldn't have any problems with soil mucking up your water. Oh, yes... add a Planttab (or whatever) in the bottom, on about 1" of soil, but not too close to the plant's roots.

P.s. You can use pots WITHOUT holes, but if your water level drops below the pot's rim, your plant can actually dry out!
