I always look at energy cost because Danville utilities here is just a small company .If you live in the city utility cost is less but if you live in the county like I do it costs more .With 3 pumps and an all electric house I try to keep my bill down to less than 150 dollars a month .No other utilities out here .Thing is most of that is all the stupid taxes they add onto your bill .

This is a little sketch of my idea. I think the highest point would be 3 feet.

I really like that idea and wonder if the laguna 4200 gph would pump that far and give enough water .But laguna does sell waterfall pumps up to 6600 gph

Of course that's me farting around with my colored pencils while flopped on the couch. Not sure how that will all come together when I'm trying to dig through clay and moving big (ish) rocks!

Looking at you excellent sketch, I would say that your 'turkey platter' plunge pool will need to have a water depth of 6" to 8" to minimize water loss due to splashing.
I am going to get my books out and research, but can I just create a shelf of soil with a depression in it, and rock around to support? Or should I put something more substantial in to create the bowl? (Liner over all, of course.)

I haven't ordered my liner yet, so I could get my piece 5 feet longer, which would work fine.

I think turkey platter pool should become an official ponding term! :)

oh the work involved and the sore muscles that will come with it
I've got a big bottle of Motrin PM ready and waiting!

I need to also keep a list of all the klutzy moves I do during this pond experience. I know I have at least one already.

a shelf with a depression should work .To build my waterfall pond I used concrete block on the sides and top and bottom because i did not have enough dirt to make it .Think of it like steps on your deck .but the last step is a doozy

You will have ample spoil from excavating the pond to create whatever size mound that you may need for the waterfall. Create whatever size depression that you deem appropriate in this mound for the plunge pool, cover with liner, add rocks and plants and you are good to go.
If you create the mound with a gentle slope, the plunge pool will be supported by the surrounding soil. Similar to this photo:

Doing it this way will keep the height of the waterfall in scale with the pond and will also blend in much better with the surrounding landscape.

@bagsmom First of all, YOU ARE AN ARTIST! Wow, that sketch is great! And 2nd, every time I glance at the title of this thread in the listings, "One fall or 2?" instead of picturing a waterfall, I see a vision of your falling in the hole while working on it, LOL! Sorry, but you brought up all the precautions you are taking in case you do fall, so that's what my crazy brain wants to remember.
