Asked the son-in-law (the Kiwi) if he'd ever heard of Budgie smugglers. He said OH,Yah, but you'd never catch HIM wearing one! He wasn't impressed with the Holden ute either, said they have a bad rep Down Under.

Now see I would have thought a Budgie smuggler was a person that caught those little parakeets and smuggled them into other countries.............have no idea what one would wear to be called that.
Holden ute sounds like a musical instrument.............but can't figure why it would have a bad rep?
If you would tell me what these things were then I would not have to go look them up,lol!

Ok John I had to go look them up. Now I know but not telling anybody else cuz they can figure it out for themselves,lol!

Holden utes don't have a bad rep here, perhaps they are not popular in NZ...don't know. There are a lot of imported similar style vehicles now days that I think the traditional holden and ford utes are not going to be produced in coming years. They are now more show ponies than what they were originally intended....as a working vehicle and a social one all in one.
