I have a little "dirty water pump" that I use to pump natural looking drips from under a cliff of rocks along the edge of the pond. I put on a longer rubber output hose and punched holes in the last four feet, then wound it through a little cliff on one edge of the pond so that it leaks water over the edges of the rocks. The pump itself sits about a foot from the bottom of the pond on a rock so that it doesn't cycle out the bottom crud. Last fall we had a waterfall leak and unplugged everything to work on it. Well as part of the hunt for the leak, I had pulled the rubber hose out from between the drip rocks and it was laying alongside the pond. Before I had a chance to get everything in place, Hubby went out back and plugged everything in. I never thought a second about that little pump. The next morning we awakened to about a foot of water in the bottom of the pond and the little pump had burned out. . Luckily the main pump was still half submerged in its bucket, and the fish were still alive! That little pump had removed about 800 gallons of water while we slept. Not totally his fault, though. And I just keep reminding myself that our partners are not necessarily ponders.. they just love us and want to help! LOL!
