I just raised the edge by about 4 inches over the first few years. Now it can handle the different water levels. The bog/pond wall I thought was tall enough to direct all water to the water fall, nope water leaks over it all the time. Which is great, have water movement the entire length of the pond.
partially based on your design, that's why I made my liner fold and go under the last sandstone stack layer for my bog v2; this way the very top layer can have gaps through which water can be directed 'over the wall' like small waterfalls while the rest of the length gets the weeping treatment. And as it clogs with roots that changes a bit too and water gets diverted over different portions at different times!

Moss algae grows great on the wall, sun and constant wet works well. I have the same a clog here and there and the water goes to a different place to weep.
