That's absolutely awesome!!

I think one of the problems I may have is that the area I'm planning as a bog ( still can't get used to calling it this as I always think of peat bogs) will have overhanging trees, if I'm not careful I could be introducing nutrients through rotting leaves .
I also have lots of trees.
Perhaps a leaf blower will keep the leaves out. During the Fall season, I erect a net over the pond and bog to prevent this. Just a basic PVC pipe frame bow shaped upward and covered with pond netting.

OK,
I've had a redesign.
I plan to forget the stream element and make a 6-12 inch high retaining wall for the bog section with a waterfall return to the pond.

This makes the plumbing much simpler, although I will need to think carefully how to run the liner through the wall section.

I laid my liner over the dividing wall. Then piled stones over that to hide the liner.

I made my bog walls high, probably a bit too high, to allow for possible expansion... height wise.

I also laid the liner over the rest of the walls. Then covered with more stones.

The vertical liner at the inner part of the walls between the gravel and the top of the walls was easy to hide. I just piled stones right on top of the gravel.

That looks great, come cover mine, I have raised the liner a few times, it needs some covering. But when the plants grow you never see it

Welcome to the forum @BeesKnees I as many here started with aquariums then graduated to a wildlife pond. Though I miss my planted tank immensely as it had a 2 foot waterfall that dumped into an open 90 gallon corner tank . That had plants both in and out of the water and for addicted twist I had shift tail finches breeding in the open top area. My avatar here is a small pic of that tank.
I see why the stream has been removed from the wish list . But I like where your heading with the bog and a pond. It will take some time for your pond to cycle much like an aquarium. But it takes a bit longer for all the bacteria and micro organisms to take foot in the setup and thrive.

Most of those who answer these posts have a like below this text of there pond build.

Thanks GBBUDD,
I've tended to go with hi tech tanks with fire extinguisher CO2, but I've decided it's time to wind my main tank down as part of redecorating the dining room it currently sits in. Covid has changed my lifestyle significantly, I now work from home and spend lots of time in the garden.

Your tank looks stunning, the only time I had plants out of the tank was when the aponogeton flowered.

I have a question.
I really like the way the wall has been done on this raised bog filter, I assume the liner goes under the wall.

But, those bricks look like sandstone or possibly baked clay to me. I'm pretty certain a standard housebrick sitting in water would be a problem, but would sandstone bricks with an extra piece of liner behind it work?

Edit: could they be cast concrete bricks?
