i use the blue tint in summer because the blue tinted water helps reflect the heat of the sun and keep my ponds water cooler because i am in full sun 10+ hours a day. in the peak of summer longer still and my pond is not even 30" deep because its over my utilities trench. but you gotta add it a drop or 2 at a time..its unreal how much difference a couple drops can make... it helps till the plants fill in.

I have the same problem you do with full sun all day long. Here is something that I use. Microbe Lift Concentrated Barley and Peat. The peat in it gives the pond water a brownish tinge. I use this until my floating plants cover at least a third of the pond. Then I quit because my husband likes the water clear. Plus it has other good qualities to condition the pond naturally, and it won't hurt the wildlife. The only drawback is it's not free. I like free better.

i use tetraonds barley peat extract as i stated in an earlier post on this thread for starting alge control but blue is better at deflecting heat...you know you use the black dye to hold warmer water temps in the fall because black absorbs heat.
