Hi and welcome! So I always put my shelf plants in green mesh baskets with pea gravel. The green gets pretty well hidden as the plants grow. Just make sure you rinse the pea gravel good before you put it in the pond. I just dug out a giant sedge and I didn’t even realize I had put it in a basket years ago until after two days of cutting it down and I found this large basket I had planted it in. There were giant roots growing through and out the sides of the basket so the basket definitely did not hinder the plant! So my experience with pennywort was just the opposite. I put some in my pond but it didn’t come back the following year anywhere in my pond or my yard!I bought 4 new aquatic plants from a water gardening/aquatic store. They were all in pots. My new pond in 8 x 10 and is 2 1/2' deep on the center. It has a 12" shelf about 10" deep . The shallow plants definitely don't look good sitting in pots that are easily visible. The deep plant looks fine. What can I do with the shallow plants?
