Thank you for the compliment Carolyn. Funny thing is I have no filter system at this time. I had one in the past but it was too hard to deal with. The only things I have now are plants placed around the rocky edge w/ their feet in the water and some grassy plants in a big pot. The other thing I have is my submersible pump (Pondmaster 2400) sits in a big black plastic plant pot w/ a piece of filter media on the inside bottom of the pot so holes in bottom of pot won't let in gunk to clog pump. I have another piece of that filter media cut the shape of the top of the pot in a circle so it fits really tight when squeezing it on the top above the pump so no gunk can get in that way either. Have a slit w/ a hole so tubing and power cord can fit through the top. No extra media shoved inside around the pump at all. That space is just clear empty space around pump. I guess you could call that a filter somewhat but I was just trying to protect the pump. I suppose I will have to eventually pull that pot up by the ropes I attached to the pot and clean those two filter pads off but I haven't done it yet. It's only been set up like that since last Spring and the pump tubing runs to my falls and falls have not slowed down so everything is still working. We do get a lot of rain here so my pond gets constant water changes and I do a few in the Summer myself by just letting the hose from our well run in while another pump slowly lets some old water be pulled out. These are just partial changes tho not the whole of the pond water. I just wanted to keep things simple and easy. I'd have done a bog yrs ago had I known how to do one. Too much work for me now to change everything but if someone wanted to do a whole new huge pond setup for me w/ a huge bog attached I wouldn't complain
By the way I only have goldfish. If I had koi I would need major filtration.

Do you all think that using my current pressurized filter as a prefilter then run it in to a skippy would be the best of both?
I only have goldfish but listening to others here talk about their koi and using filters it seems that the more filtration the better especially when you have too many fish in too small of a pond. So your idea on using two filters seems good to me.

So I have been going back and forth on he skippy. I see lots of people who love them and some who don't. That could be said of anything I guess. My concern is being able to hide the filter. Where I would need it to be located would be very open to be seen. With a pond size of 1800gal would I need a 150 gal skippy?

It might be a good idea to check into what you can plant around your filters. I know some of the grasses will grow quite large and quickly if you want to plant something that will hide your filters quickly. There are other things that will take longer - it is all up to you on what you prefer.

As far as the location of your filter, I would put it as close to your pond as possible. Then when you have your plantings in place, it will all look very natural.

Our previous pond was with a water wheel and all the hardware for the pond was located inside the building that housed the waterwheel.

There are a lot of options.
