Can infrared thermometers really be relied on for accurate readings? They only record surface temperature. Depending on the individual pond, there could be some variance of mid-level and bottom temps.

I don't own a cooler and because the aquarium temp is 22*c I have two small albino tropical cat fish in there keeping the bottom clean, so you can now see my situation, ps I only own one aquarium
Yeh thats a problem mate tell me when you bought the koi you bought them from outside in a koi dealership yes then took them direct to indoors correct?
I take it you left them floating for 30 mins on top of the tanks surface , so how did they cope with this sudden leap in temperaure from the cooler water temperatures outdoors ?
Did you get any problems with this ?

These are used primarily for show purposes and to cofirm in our minds that the remote pond thermometer is indeed correct and have never faulted us .
They are accurate enough for our water teams to employ them before and during the show whilst taking water perameter readings in acordance with BKKS water testing rules.
I've never seen a BKKS health official (strange ruling that is when we have our own ) who before he resigned had one of his officers report back to him about the show (strange indeed as he already knew what he had to say being his boss )
He would have been the equivulent to the AKCA's Top health official .but rules are rules and they have to be followed strange as that may sound
