extra liner is never a bad thing .I bought my new liner and bought it oversized and am glad I did because I added more height to my pond and the extra liner has now been used up .My pond is half above and half below ground .I added more concrete blocs to the top after the last couple of years major storms .I thought that I would have no problems with flooding rains from the back of the property ,but I was wrong .The liner was originally 18 inch's above the ground but is now just over 30 inch's above the ground on the back side of the pond .

Bulkhead is leaking - guess I need to silicone it
You said you did diy bulkhead. A manufactured bulkhead fitting is not expensive. A 1" bulkhead fitting on Amazon cost $3.60. They come in various sizes, thread configurations and have gaskets for a positive seal. You don't have to go to the store, you can order them online. Why squish silicone all around and chance a leak?

it will leak to silicone to plastics is not the best bond . silicone is way over rated. polyurethane is far superior. but yes they even make semi rounded bulked for barrels. Way to go without question.

bulkheads are really cheap and if you get one with 2 rubber gaskets it is even more leak proof

Now I need to add fish
I am thinking about starting with about 15-20 rosy reds for insect control. and 4 fancy goldfish. Then see how they do before adding more.
Surface area is about 36 feet - volume is almost 900 gallons.

If you want nice slow fish in pretty colors get fat fantails .I call them butt wigglers because they wiggle their butt to move

My rosy reds have already swam through the drain and my goldfish are hiding under the drain cover - hope they are not stuck

Covered the drain with bucket with holes drilled... fished the Fantails out of the filter... Never saw 2 of them, so I went and got 2 Orandus. So long story short, everyone is accounted for - now I have 6 goldfish.
