Need some advice on my pump.
my pond has 3k+ gallons of water and a pump fed pond
im using Rio 1100 (23 watts, 896 Liters per Hour for 3ft depth) as of now.
i need advise if i should get a second pump (seaquest 2200 spec. 25 watts, 2200 Liters per Hour for depth of 1.95 M, dual output) or sell my current Rio 1100 and get a new Rio 12 HF (40 watts, 2390 Liters per Hour for depth of 4 ft)?

OK, let me see if I understand you correctly, you have 3000 imperial gallons of water and only one small pump, pumping under 896 gallons per hour? I would say that is too little of a pump for that size of pond.
Do you have fish? what size and how many?

Ideally, you want to pump the same amount of water per hour that you have total in your pond.

3 kinds of angelfish (5pcs each kind)
2 kinds of barb(11-12 rosy barb's & 8 black ruby barb)
29 koi's

this much :)

so i guess i should get second pump(seaquest 2200 spec. 25 watts, 2200 Liters per Hour for depth of 1.95 M, dual output) or get 2 seaquest pumps?

Are you in a tropical region or have an indoor heated pond? Angelfish are tropical fish, native to the Amazon and most barb species are of tropical asian origin. And 29 koi? - in a 3000 imperial gallon setup with a single small pump? I'm confused. Is this for real? (n) That's over 60 fish!

Oh, I understand why you have tropical fish - I found a previous posting where you say you're in warm southwest asia! My apologies - but I still think you're pond is tremendously overstocked for it's size. ;)

29 Koi is a lot of koi and they will get very big. Plus the koi can add lots of waste to the pond and cause water problems.

i know its alot of koi but can't resist not taking them in..

Bigger is Better!!

i guess i should go for 2 seaquest 2200 LpHR that should do over 4k LpHR more than the water i got

10 of those barbs are adopted my cousin gonna threw them somewhere so i take them in.

from what observe on local koi keepers here they got like minimum of 50 barbs(these barb's only grow up to 2"), 10-20 angelfish per pond and mostly of those pond only got like 2k-3k liters.

As you say, barbs are very small, but barbs and angelfish are not koi. Koi grow into large fish as Colleen points out in post #7 of this thread. You mentioned having 29 koi - if they truly are koi, they will grow beyond your pond's capacity. Good luck with whatever you decide to do, Blackmaler. :)

There is an advantage to having two pumps even if only one goes to your filter. The second one can create extra water movement and it is nice to have it if the other pump breaks down. Regarding adopting extra fish. There are people with high fish loads in their pond but you are setting yourself up for a lot of extra work. Usually it is better to start off slow and make sure both you and your pond can handle a moderate bio load before committing to too much. A lot of us have unfortunately learned the hard way by having too high of a fish load and then having to deal with the ensuing problems.

And I was thinking is 6 koi to many in mine :) I actually use 3 pumps in mine. I think 2 pumps will be a benefit to you. It must be nice to have tropical fish too, I am way to cold for that.

Hey , Robamy. all the "experts" say 1000 gallons for the first koi and 500 gallons more per additional fish but you will see some people on gpf with much higher bio-loads that are successful with their ponds . Since your koi are fairly small now you will have choices down the road such as adding additional filtration, enlarging your pond, or re-homing some of your fish. I think your koi are really pretty and after seeing some of their pictures I wish I had one, but I have always stuck with goldfish since my pond is under 1000 gallons. Plus I like to relax and enjoy it and not do too much work!
