That's one of my favorite local trails, by the way. It's not very long, but it has some nice scenes along the river. I hiked it for the first time just last year. This was my second time on it. Hoping to get back there again sometime in October around peak autumn colors if the weather cooperates.

I went to do some leaf peeping in beautiful Stowe Vermont yesterday. This area has everything going for it. Drove through Smugglers Notch. Had a great lunch outside at a Mexican Restaurant. First time dining out since Covid19. Drove up the Mt.Mansfield, which is the tallest mountain in Vermont. I felt like I was on top of the world. The lower areas are pretty much solid sugar maples, with a few Yellow Birch and Beech mixed in. The mountain tops are evergreen (Balsam Fir). I thought I would share a few pics.

Hiked along the Root River yesterday. The autumn colors are starting to show, and the salmon are swimming up the river.

Wow nice pix and birdwhisperer? How'd you do that?
We live in a rural area in the upper part of Michigan's lower peninsula.
We have birds constantly crashing into the windows. When the bird is
unresponsive or disoriented to the point of not being able to stand,
we will pick the bird up and try to get it to grip one of our fingers.
One can feel the strength coming back into their grip as they come around.
We will try to talk softly to it from behind , slightly from one side and
then the other, paying close attention to the movement of the head. What we
are looking for is movement in both directions from the bird to let us know
the neck is not broke.
All the while, softly stroking the bird with a finger along the grain of the
feather. Head to tail. It sometimes just takes a few minutes, but we have
had them for over a half hour before they finally flew off. It's a great
feeling to see them leave. My wife has done this much more than I but it's
wonderful to see them fly off. I call her the bird whisperer.

We were having a lot of birds crash into our window by the bird feeders. Bought some of the semi-transparent window decals and haven't had any hit the windows since. Something to consider.

That helped some, but the sheer number of birds makes crashes inevitable. It's like an aviary/ petting zoo
because of a .6 acre pond that sits 40 feet from our home.
I've moved the feeders as far away as I can and it still happens. The number of birds in
the area attracts hawks, which will make a strafing run and scatter
the birds in all directions, including into our windows.
We had it happen the first year we were here
and we did not have bird feeders out. Lots of wildflowers
around the pond that attract tons of birds. I've seen
over 70 species of birds visiting out of Michigan's 120 or so.
Birds of prey know the watering hole is an easy meal.
