Hi all, a question on filtration!!!

Been wrecking my head going over different setup ideas where to place the falls, which viewing area suits, how to get water from a to b to c and back, where to place uv light if needed at all!, there's a fair bit of stuff to try and balance out correctly if clear and good quality water is to be had!!!

I have a skimmer which is a bit on the low flow side, but should be okay in the size of pond i have, i have a pump on the way which is slightly overpowered for the skimmer but that's okay because ill loose some to friction etc and it is adjustable.

I will have to place pump below skimmer in a container and it will most likely have the first mechanical filtration area there which I will clean regularly. On it goes from there to what will be a homemade filtration setup with a 100 litre barrel or similar, in the SKIPPY style, my question is what are the pros and cons of A vs B in this picture? Im leaning towards B but A seems to be more commonplace?? At least in B I could use the UV light in spring and remove it for rest of year??

PS Lisa K im waiting on a laser level before I move on because Im really worried about getting the levels perfect... I think iv dug out too much already!!

Upflow filtration (example A) is usually the better choice. With "B" an overflow must be added as debris will collect on the surface of the media restricting the downward flow of the water. It could be maybe higher maintenance.

Skimmer arrived today:).
Iv sold it already:blackeye:.
The weir door seemed loose and gappy, and although it moved with the water level itself the skim level was fixed inside the skimmer was a fixed plate with a small 1.5inch hole which would ultimately determine the water height so its not really adjusting IMHO. Plus the basket was tiny.

Iv ordered the biosys skimmer that I had decided on in the first place:nailbiting:.

Need to hold off a bit now and wait for funds to build up before I can move onwards. Probably best as if I was flush Id probably rush it and mess it up somehow
