I spent a bunch on my dragon pumps, still waiting for them to be shipped from arizona, renters being a little slow about it. Once they get here I will be installing one, they push about 1500 more gph then what I am using.

Great about the cage, that will make it a lot easier to keep clean.

Yep it's nice that you guys all have such warm weather for this time of year. It's not too bad today. We did get more snow last night but it won't last long as the sun is melting it all away.

Keith, how does your new pumps cage fit around the pump............I mean is the whole thing inside a cage. Would be interesting to see what it looks like. Do you have a link or photo of it? I just have netting wrapped around my intake but a cage might work much better. Glad it's working good for you!

Ok I found it on the net and was looking at the different sizes and the 4200 one says on the page that it pumps 4200 gph but when you enlarge the photo of the item and look closely on the box it says it only pumps 1500 gals. but does not say gph. I looked at this before now that I think about it and could not figure that one out. I was thinking about getting one. Guess I should call them and ask what's up w/ that?

The box is saying max flow 1500 gallons / 6000 liters per hour, so it is 1500 gph or 6000 lph

Yes but did you see that the page said it moves 4200 gph for the same pump and on the box only 1500gph so it differs from what the box says and what the page says about it. Like if you look at the one that is the 2000 gph it says the same on the box and on the page 2000 gph .

Probably just the wrong picture, j.w., since all the pumps look pretty much the same.

Yep cuz if they call it a 4200 it would be weird to make it a 1500gph pump. Would call it their 1500 model right!

j.w. Their prices are much better than what I paid. I felt kinda funny not having my waterfall running with this hot weather and felt it would be good to put one in right away so I went to a local garden center that has a lot of pond supplies and got one instead of shopping on the internet. I paid over $100 and this company has the same one for $80. It's called a cage but as you can see it is a piece of plastic with holes. I was so tired of cleaning my pre-filter all the time in my old pump that this has to be much better. About once a week the water would slow to a trickle and that was my cue to clean it.

I left the cage on my big pump in my main pond. I had it last year only on a landscape rock in the 42" depth, so it was not on the bottom, but close (now it is on a milk crate, so about 12" off the bottom) and only had to clean the cage off maybe 3 times all last summer! I've not had to clean it off since I put it back in this time either. You will be shocked at how much stuff will get sucked through the pump without clogging it. Only really big stuff, or very large leaves will clog it completely. I can't imagine having some type of filter that would clog with small particles, like my skimmer filter does. At least that's easy to get to and clean and put back together. :)

I can get the 4200gph for $199. and said they had a rebate but when I clicked the pdf file it was only good in 2011........oh well! Have it on ebay for $189.50 also w/ free shipping or you can make an offer and pay shipping.
Supposed to be pretty energy efficient. Says it pays for itself in energy savings in one year. Does this sound good below?
Wattage: 170W
Voltage: 115V/60Hz
Amperage: 1.48A

at 10cents a kWh in cost, that will cost you around 12.60 per month to run (31 day month)
Don't know your electricity cost, so can't do an actual cost.

All you have to do is look for your electric bill and it will give you a better idea .I bought one of those energy reading meters .It was fun to plug something in and see how much energy it uses

Sissy, I never heard of an energy reading meter! Sounds like something I'd like to get. Where do you find them? Do places like Home Depot or Menards have them? How much did you pay, if you remember? I bet my electric bill is higher than I think with my pumps running. Oops! Oh well, I'm the one that pays for it, and it's worth it. :)
