Wow have a great time! I took a white river rafting trip starting at the base of Victoria Falls, a week on the Zambezi River. Beautiful neat critters, great fun! This was after the camping safari in Tanzania.

We had to portage the rafts a few times, too dangerous to ride them. Also warnings of hippos, they like to come up under the raft and toss it, little dangerous bugs in the still water, etc etc. But so much fun!

Two of the three canoes overturned, lucky for me it was not my canoe. I remember giving the instructor a black eye accidentally. We were coming up to lots of white water and he said something to me, and I turned back to see him (he was in rear of canoe steering) and I turned with the one big double paddle, which was unfortunate for him, and wacked him in the head. Poor guy!

We were in those large rubber rafts that hold around 6 people, ropes to hang onto. They would bend with the dips in the water.

Colleen I started canoeing at bodring school on the early 70's when I joined the Navy chose a sport called surf canoeing , surfing many beaches of the plces we would visit .
In 1978 I undertook an Army Canoe insstructors course on the river spey in Scotland , I ran a number of clubs on the ships and bases I was on but lost the ability to do my beloved sport after my bike crash :(

Dave sorry to hear about your crash too. I have gone canoeing in Quebec province and it was pretty challenging to do it in fast waters with a lot of large rocks. Also had to learn it in French which I barely know any words :) I'm still in Africa. We went great white shark watching and I took some nice pictures. I also saw a leopard eating it's kill in a tree and a bunch of other interesting things.I'll post some pictures when I get back. Right now we are in Cape Town. It's a really nice city and I could see living here. The only negative is all the shanty towns. It's sad to see people living that way.
