My Gelatin Box Turtle Food (FOR Box Turtles, not Made With...)

We don't currently have a pond, and we released our last water turtle rescue in the spring. We have a Russian Tortoise and three rescued box turtles. I ran across this site when I was looking to see if I could use ground meats (not just beef) as a protein source to mix in with my young box turtle's diet. The only reference I've seen to this says that we should cook the meat, which from a biological point of view makes no sense to me at all. They are less than a year to almost 3 years so still need a lot of protein but I'm not sure the grain-free canned dog food is the best way to go. I plan to start raising mealworms and earthworms soon, but might still need to supplement. We feed our dogs and cats raw, species-appropriate diets and want to do the best we can afford to for our reptiles as well.
