Just wondering... has anyone tried using a coyote decoy to deter herons? These things look amazingly life-like; I believe they are used by hunters to lure the real thing closer. Have been noticing them (decoys) around ponds further north, and just now made the connection. May be worth a try, even in areas without coyotes, since they COULD be dogs as well.

I had alligator heads floating, worked decently then the heron started going to edges slightly away from the head. They would stand there and study the head for a long time, if it was nicely windy and the head floated around it worked better. If it was still the heron would sneak up and try to snatch fish.

The netting has worked the best at keeping the heron away from my fish. I started out with deer fencing but small birds were getting stuck under it and dieing.

Good stuff Adavisus.
As far as coyote decoys, I think it would be like any other decoy or sound, the Heron would probably notice it wasn't moving after a while.

Here are a few pics of the footprints around the pond. These are form Wednesday. I saw him fly by late that afternoon. No sign of him since. I hope he's gone for good. I won't let my guard down though.
