Thank you. My wife has always wanted a pond on our deck so if she had anything bad to say about it, she will be the one swimming with the fishes. To answer your question for the water collection it is fairly simple. I have the return hose from my pump hooked up to the underside of the box that carries the water into a pond liner and PVC laid on the bottom with ¼" holes spaced out every 6". Once the water leaves the PVC it travels up through about 8-10" of lava rock then up to large river rock and seeps through about another 8-10" of pea gravel. Once it passes the pea gravel there is about 4" of standing water that flows/pulls out the pipe and back down into the pond. Its a very gentle flow but the water is constantly moving up and out.
