1. The waste drain isn't shown, but it will be near the bottom on the mechanical side.

2. The divider will probably be made of plastic, screwed in along with silicon used to seal the inside.

3. The pump will be external and right where the input pipe ends, right next to the filter.

4. The pipes will be 2" or 3", depending on my pump I get. The outlet pipe might be larger than the inlet, depending on wether or not the inlet speed is faster than the outlet speed.

I would put the in line toward the bottom and the divider on the bottom, This gives the waste a place to settle as long as your flow is not to much.

I am planning on using store-bought mechanical media; I haves left over from my indoor thank. Then I will use a mixture of plastic materials for the bio side, including some leftover biospheres, strapping, and maybe plastic six-pack rings.

DoDad, I would do that, but it will be difficult to firmly attach it and water-tight it if it is on the bottom.

why are you doing the divider at all? Why don't you just plumb your barrel like the ones in our DIY stickies? no need for divider, crud will sink to bottom and you just flush.

I need the outlet pipe to be high enough for the waterfall I planned on building.

Also koikeepr, to answer one of your previous questions, I mainly chose this system because I want a funtional, yet cheap and simple design to start out. I might improve the system once overall construction is complete, but I just want something to get by for now.

i get it, but plumbing the barrel the standard way the way we have will be cheaper and easier. No need for the divider at all. Please do take a look at the bunch we've got with directions on the DIY section.

The filters we have here are not skippy filters, as Skippy insists you do not ever flush out your barrel and that the waste will magically turn into inocuous sand.

Check DIY, these are proper barrels based on sound design.
