pond.JPGThis is a Blagdon 50 gallon Mayfly preformed pond........with Biological filter .It has a fitted UV filter but it is not switched on as I try to see what clarity of water can be obtained through the natural process and the results are impressive. My pond is slightly overstocked and I use an airstone running 24 hours. All fish (Goldfish and Ghost carp ) appear happy and never come to surface for air.I am installing same size holding pond above main tank to double as filter and holding tank for when fish get to big for pond.I am really happy with results and if anybody wants my advice they are welcome .............I read and looked on web to get as much info as I could before starting. The pond was created in June 2011 and I can recommend a ground plant called Snow in Summer as and excellant fast grower to cover pond edge. The depth of pond is about 12ins and the fish in the photo are on the bottom.I have a waterfall (out of site) which contains Watercress in containers which help in water purification ..........I can send photos if anyone interested.

Plants are called Snow in Summer (in UK ) I will check out their actual name and let you know .....I can recommend them as they are really fast growers ..Pond was only installed late June 2011..............................The ground covering plant is ............................Cerastium tomentosum

I have flown in the face of the so called experts with regard to fish levels and stocking ,,,,,,,,,,,but with a little common sense your pond doesnt have to be huge to be enjoyed ..Its all about water management ...........One word of caution when you have water clarity fish hide so I am trying to calm them by getting used to regular feeding on my approach..........Still you cant have everything........

Its not as big as I would like but i am very pleased with results .......You dont need expensive filtration equipment ...Nature will do the job for you....Dont need chemicals for clear water

I have a pond heater and will use that should it get really cold .I have chosen hardy fish..........But time will tell if they survive Winter........I will keep you informed as to my success.
I have had small ponds before and fish ok ...........I constantly watch them and if they appear distressed will act.
If I am wrong I will hold my hands up and admit it .......But feel quitely confident at the moment

Update.........Moved Biological filter to feed main reservoir tank which can double as fish holding tank or another pond........All water is the same in both ponds ...More cosmetic work required..but I am happy with results
