right here we go for today, stuck the liner in, wading about as it filled tucking corners etc, bloooooomin cold!!!

Filled up to the shelf today then gave up until tomorrow when i shall start again, gona get the plants for the shelf potted up and placed in then fill up to grass level.

The area to the rear of the pond is being raised up with the spare sleepers, linered (about 3000L capacity), and filled with a gravel earth mix to become a large bog nature area (fed by rainfall), stream down the middle to a waterfall, lots of iris's along the rear to hide the filter and fence, and the join between the bog and pond will be covered with a plant net and some kind of aquatic plants blending the two parts together etc, really nice addition to the project, if not a massive pain in the arse to implement!!!

got the filter in today, 45gallon water header tank, 1.5" input 'spray bar', three 3ftx2ft filter pads down sizing, then a load of 1/2"x1" piping, dual 2" output with overflows incorperated etc etc.... Vorton 18000 UVC light, pumps 8000L/hr.

filled the water to grass level, waterlillys planted (only tiddlers atm) in an aqua pot with aqua compost and gravel from my drive, if they are anything like the old ones, will take over and be of a good size by the end of the summer.

Finally getting the bits i need to bolt the sleepers tomorrow and taking up to full capacity.

(ps: will be a bog between filter and pond with stream and waterfall instead of pipes in June, no hurry)

How do you plan to clean the bio filter? Is the foam your only method? Eventually the bottom of this container is going to collect a lot of green muck, do you have a method to flush it?

theres a 2" slide valve on the back bottom to flush the bio tubes under the foam (grill at bottom). Basicly a box format 'barrel filter' from here with foams on top. You can see the plumbing to the bottom rear of the filer of the dump, to be extended out past the bog / buried to a drain about 15foot away.

shall be hitting a 6-7week workstop now, off to uni again in the morning untill June.

In theory i only have about 10hours work left to do, 6ish more wheelbarrows of earth into the bog, cut and fix finishing planks on top of the walls, and put a good finish on the waterfall etc.... Planting will be done by the parents so not my bother, im just doing the construction and looking after the pond.

Hopefully in the next few weeks the bio filter will kick in, the lillys will have grown a fair bit and maybe some goldfish. I can get myself some lovely koi and spend the summer growing them up.

my parents have informed me they have filled the rest of the earth in, and started planting up. Hopefully when i get back in june there should be a fair bit of growth and things will be looking good. Also have a few goldies in for tempory excitment. Saving the koi and sturgeon until ive completely finished construction (if there is such a thing)
