UPDATE

I bought an above ground pool 12x30 but never took it out of the box. Instead I had a guy come in and build me a small but deep pond next to my garage. It is only 14 ft long and just under 4 feet wide but hits around 5 feet deep at the deep end and transitions up in steps to around 2 feet deep at the other end. The builder seems to think it is around 1800 gallons so more water than my 1200 gallon pond at the other house.

So now I just need to get the pump and filtration system moved from the other house to this pond to start cycling the water.

What I did when I had to move my fish..... I bagged up all the filter media [I have a 100 gal. Rubbermaid skippy]. Used several mesh bags. I threw those into the main pond while I moved the filter and got the receiving tank ready -- be sure to dechlorinated. Then when the receiving tank was ready for the fish, I got the skippy all set back up with the original filter media and converted the tubing from the pond over to the receiving tank. I kept a good check on the water parameters, but because of the temp quarters, it was actually over-filtered for my fish load and didn't have to cycle all over again. Didn't have any problems with ammonia, etc. And all of the original filter media was used. Anyway, it worked for me.

Since a brought my 50 gallon drum filter unit from old pond, my new pond cycled very fast. Fish have been doing very well and recently one of my koi gave birth to a ton of baby koi. I have a birthing each year but usually one to two koi make it through. This time....tons of koi are making it. I'm going to have to start pulling them out...new thread on this to come.
