So sorry you lost your fish. At the time I had my problem last year my pond was severely overstocked and I had poor water quality due to not cleaning out a section of the pond that was used to overwinter plants. Water changes were done to resolve that. I did not mention I also used a medicated food during treatment and this I'm sure also helped. Ponding is one of those things where you never stop learning. I've learned a lot form the people on this forum and am still learning!
